"I tried making potatoes like yours but they weren't."

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is showing a vast collection of American postcards (9,000) collected by Walker Evans.

And Slate has an interest-piquing slide show exploring the "nonarty sort of beauty" that Walker Evans saw in the most plain postcards. The line about potatoes was written by Diane Arbus to Evans, on a postcard of course.
